Showdown is a competitive mode in which finding the best word the quickest is the key, while Versus supplies various mini-games for you and one other friend to battle in, one-vs-one. Sandbox is a more traditional Scribblenauts mode that will be familiar to fans of the series. Here you can summon a variety of objects--publisher Warner Bros. says over 35,000 items are available in-game--to solve objectives either by yourself or with a friend. Eight new levels are included, as are hidden collectibles and achievements. Expand

It doesn't quite feel like the boundary- pushing fount of innovation the series was originally known for. [Issue #33 – May/June 2018, p. 70]

The stripped-down sandbox may be a disappoint longtime fans, but it’s an extra feature that adds to a game that would still feel complete without it.

A simple and funny killtime... for a match or two.

Yes, it shares the name and the look of those previous games, but it lacks the all-important creative heart of its predecessors, and ends up being a by-the-numbers affair that goes through the motions in a shallow attempt to turn Scribblenauts' unique premise into a multiplayer party game.

This is a collection of minigames with fun concepts, but the influence of objects is so small, it is not like you can really make a difference.

When the minigames here lean into the object creation tools (lifted entirely from the old games) there's fun to be had. But not enough of them do. There are so many options available for shallow rhythm-based dance games or Flappy Bird clones that it's disappointing to see them shoe-horned into a franchise that's already sitting on one of the most unique and enjoyable gimmicks there is.

Scribblenauts Showdown is an incredibly disappointing attempt to resurrect the Scribblenauts franchise. It’s neither a fun party game nor a fun Scribblenauts game and is hard to recommend to anyone unless you’re incredibly desperate for a party game on the Switch.

I am in my 40's. Played with 2 boys, 10 and 12. And we all had an amazing time playing the board game version of this for an hour. When it was over, the boys said, LETS PLAY IT AGAIN! The game is deep. Also has original sandbox mode with new levels.

When they were about to leave, I surprise them by giving them the game as a gift. They were SO excited (and, I will simply buy another one for myself)

I am simply BAFFLED at the hate and negativity for this game. Sure, a couple of the mini-games are not top notch. But there are many great ones within. At $40, solid deal. At $20 sale in most places, you have got to be kidding me. Steal it at that price.

If you like Scribblenauts or are new to the Scribblenauts world, just buy it.

You have your normal freeroaming mode, but the main attraction is the minigames where you create an object, and do various things with it, such as balancing multiple giraffes on a flying carpet, or having a competition to see who can eat a pair of socks the fastest. The only downside to this game is the price. 40$ is just way too much for something you'll probably only play when you're hanging out with friends, since the singleplayer mode is so unoriginal and unfun. The game is lame and the main gimmick of writing stuff is being shat on with the horrendous gameplay. If you have a very unique formula, don't try to change it.

This game is the WORST idea any developer ever had.

Super Scribblenauts was simply amazing, and Unlimited just the way to follow and improve. The moment the game was affected by bigger companies, it went to ****

And here we are, with WB using a completely unknown and mis-related company to create a soulless, unfun, betraying piece of garbage nobody should support. Please, if you ever see someone try to get this game even for his little kid, try to convince that person of the heavy punishment this game deserves.

It may have killed the franchise; one that I particularly loved for years. It's embarrassing, insulting and I can't express enough hate to this kind of disgusting product.
